Walking to Mae Hat we noticed that living trees were sometimes used as utility poles. This may have been a cheap initial solution but in the long run it will be necessary to spend money on alternatives. This does illustrate the rapid development of these islands where getting something in place quickly was higher priority than doing the job properly.
